Day 1: 

 

    Today I got home at 8:30 after going to soccer practice and guitar, so naturally I just wanted to go to sleep. When I got  home I had a dinner of fish before getting to work on my math and then Boilogy. I made sure to send an email to Nick saying that I would do the timeline, which I did it took around 45 minutes to complete. While I doing it I made sure to make each days task more than just a short phrase. Today in class we had learned about and how to use a PBwiki, which i had never heard of today. Mrs. Janson explained to us that it was a simle way to created a site on the web that could be viewed by others of informations and such. ITs actually Pretty cool, its really easy to use to unliuke most of the software we have learned to use, such as micromedia flash, i also really like the feature to be able to insert movies and other plugins quite easily.

    When I woke up I checked my email before going to school, in my inbox was one e-mail from nick I checked it and he said he had done the timeline aswell, this frustrated me. So i took a shower and my mom drove me to school, I was tired and I regreted staying up that extra forty-five minutes watching T.V.. When I got to school I talked to nick and we decided to use his timeline, because I still had to complete two more days on mine. I was really tired this morning I could hardly stay awake in history class and I had forgotten to do last nights latin homework, but it wasnt a problem because I have free period second on tuesday and thursday. All in all monday is my busiest day because I get home really late and I'm glad I got through it without to much hasstle.

 

 

Day 2:

 

    Today I was glad that their was no soccer practice so I was able to get home around 4:30, when I got home i wanted to get all of my work done to have the rest of the day to relax. I quickly checked my email before starting my homework. When i was looking up the reproductive qualities of L.menstenteroids I checked encyclopedia, no results i even tried three differenc combinations of the word. I did the same for nettrecker and abc-clio, still no results, by now it had been about twenty minutes since I had started so i was starting to get frustrated so i decided to take a break.

    Upon  getting back to work i checked a few more databases. Finally I found one article, it was only a page long and it did not contain much informations about the bacterium L.menstenteroids. After reading through it twice i hi-lighted the little informatino that contained. I figured that this was probobly a bad start for my project so i serched until i found another site. the next page i found turned out to be very helpful, it had alot of information on L.mesenteroides including its gram and its ph and oxygen requirements to survive on its own. I then checked wikipedia just to see if anything would come up, when i searched L.menstenteroids over twenty articles came up, this pissed me off that i could not use this site, and I decided just to put away my biology for the day.

 

Day:3

 

     Today after school i went to soccar practice until six. Then  after it ended i went to the latin room and waited until seven, studying for my latin and history quizzes tomorrow. Then at seven a few other people came and and we bagan to practice certamin. After certamin i got home at eight-thirty and began to reserch for biolody. I checked the time line of goals and then began looking up info about the basic reproductive behavior of the bacterium L.menstenteroids.

       I found a site on the free web and decided to fill out an evaluation sheet about the website, after going through Mrs. Jansen's lesson today. As I began to fill out the evaluation the authour and date of creation of the site were fairly easy to find but as i began to look for other sources that the information was kearnd from i could find none in the text or at the bottom of the page so unfortunatly after all that work i could not use this site.

 

Day 4:

 

    Today during school i had taken two tests so i was happy when it was over. I got home from soccer practice around seven and had dinner, i wasnt very hungry though. I then went up stairs and watched a show. Afterwords i did my math and latin homework. After i had finished that i got out my boilogy journal, and i ran out of things to journal about so, i took a break and read stephen colbers I AM AMERICA (and so can you), it has to be the best book ever.

   Then i realized that i had forgotten to reserch the notes that i had assigned myself on my timeline. It took me about half an hour to find an artlicle and hilight it and put it on the pbwiki. In the article i learned a few interesting facts about L mesenteroides including that it multiples into 1,000,000,000 bacterium after starting from one in 27 days. Then at around eleven o' clock i decided that i should go to bed.

 

Day 5:

 

    So today during class we worked on our bacterium antibiotic resistance project. In the project we took two bacterias, E. coli and Staph and put them in two different test sites. We then took three white dots two with antibiotics and one that ws steril and placed them on the bacterium. Our homework was to anwser a few of the analysis questions and it didnt take tht long after reading the article about bacterias growing resistance to antibiotics the past week.

    When i got home i made plans with nick to get together the next day, since he had a basketball tournament and i had a certamin tournament in the morning we decided to get together around three o' clock, an i would stay the night and get picked up the next morning. I also decided to do a little bit of work on the biology that night, sinc ei had to get up at seven a and go to school in the morning anyways. So i finished the last of the anyasis questions that were due monday.

 

Day 6:

 

    Today i had a certamin compition in te morning which went great, our team came in second! After certamin i went to nicks house to work on our project. At his house i found a cool website that allowed you to make quizzes and post them on websites. I decided to make a quiz for our site it was ten questions long, and it was mostly about interesting facts of our virus. the best part is it didnt even take an hour to make save and insert on our website.

    Aftert making the quiz i decided to find a few pages of information for our bacterium, it only took about 15 minutes to find and analyse a good site, i then copied all the text and hilighted the important information on word. After i had done this i put it in my notes section in my pb wiki.  I then took the hiloghted sections from it and put them into bullet point form so it would be easier for me to read. One cool thing i found out was that the bacterium L.mesenteoids is the number one larges cause of sugar cane deterioration

 

Day 7:

 

    Today after sleeping at nicks house we got up and did a few fnishing touches on our website from the past weeks work, such as fine tuning the positions of pictures and text on our web pages. I red over my past journal information and made a few gramaticall changes to make it more correct. We also decided on the work we would have to comlete over the week in able to be near completions by next friday.

    After leaveing nicks house i got home and did a little bit of work on some reasherch and i evaluated a site or two, i then had to go to church and confermation class at around six at night and i didnt get back until nine at night and then i did a little bit of homework for latin and dide some studying for my upcomming math test, after studying i watched a show or two and added a few sentances to my journal for the last two days because it was a little to short. I then went to bed, i was now about even with our original timeling goal and i was prettty proud of myself for not putting it off to do in the next feew days.

 

 

Day 8:

 

   So today in biology we got our results from our bacterium growth lab. Our E.coli results were that the E.coli was unable to grow near the amipcillin, although a few specs of the bacterium are still there, this is attributed to the growing antibiotic immunity in this virus. But going against our hypothesis the E.coli was able to grow in the penicillin with no problems. The Staph on the other hand was unable to grow at all, we have decided that the two possible reasons that this happened are bacause either the nutrient agar was insufficent to keep the bacterium alive or the temperature of the pertri dishes was to low, to solve this we have put the petri dishes in an incubator which should maintain a good hot temperature over the next day.

    Today at home i got to work on finding a few more web pages and hilighting some notes for bio. I also had to do alot of mathwork which too almot an entire hour to do. So i ended up deciding to blow off my biology homework that i was supposed to do on my timeline on monday night and decided that i would just have extra homework tuesday night, after all i didnt get home until 8:30 because of soccer and the guitar.

 

Day 9:

 

    Today during biology we checked the results of the growth of the staph after being put in the incubator. We found that the staph was able to grow when it was at the correct temperature and it was kiled by both the ampicillin and the penicillin, although the ampicillin had more effect. Today in class we worked on our websites so i found a few pages and hilighted them, i was specifically searching for interesting dacts and such on my bacterium. I learned that LMesenteroides after just one month can multiply into 1,000,000,000 copies of itself, which is very impressive considering it starts our as just one.

    I had soccer practice today and when i got home i finished up my homework before getting to work on my website, i decided to add a few questions to our sites quiz. It only took about 30 minuntes of so to go through my notes and find a few questions about the habitat of LMesenteroides to be able to finish up the quiz. I was surprised at how easy Pb wiki made it to embed the quiz onto the page practically all i had to do to get it to work was click about five times. Today i felt like i got a good amount of work done so i decided to watch a show or two before getting to bed before school tomorrow.

 

Day 10:

 

    Today we started on our bacteria Identification Lab, in this lab we took three known bacteria and on unkown ond out task is to determin which of the three this unknown bacteria is. In order to do this we are going to conduct a series of three tests which will help us tell the differences of these three bacterium. We will conduct a Gram test a Motility test and an Agar test, Today we are conducting the Motility and Agar tomorow we are conducting the gram test. Once we have conducted all three of the above tests we should be able to determine which of the thrre bacterium our unknown is by porcess of elimination.

    The Motility test is a dest that determins the movement acapabilities of a certain bacterium, in this test we took a test tube filled with a semi solid gel and too a needle with a bacterium on the top we then made a hole two thirds of the way into the gel and removed the needle, if the test is positive we will se a fuzz all inside the gel like material if it is negative it will only have grown in the hole created by the needle. The agar test is much simpler for this we took a petridish with agar and put each bacterium in one quadrent of it and we will wait a day and if there is a color change that substance will have tested positive.

 

Day 11:

 

    So today in class we conducted our gram test. Compared to the other two test we conducted this one takes much longer and you have to be much more precise with time and such so you dont make a mistake by leaving a substance on your bacterium for to long or to short. Fot this test we first took our bacterium and put it on our slide. We then applied a few drops of water and then air dried it so that it would stick to our slide. we then took a liquid called crystal violate and put around ten drops on our slide, this is supposed to stain the cell walls of our bacterium purple. We then allied three other substances each supposed to wash off this violate with different proterties. We then took the slides and viewed the under the microscope, if the purple was unable to be washed off the result is purple cells, which makes the bacterium gram positive. If some of the purple washes is it will result in a pink bacterium making the test results gram negative.

    After conducting this test on four of our bacteria our results said that they all tested positive, which isnt perticularly helpfull on account of the fact that it does not illiminate any of the bacterium so we can find out the identity of our unknown bacterium. We then checked the reults from our LAC and motility test. Fortunatly these tests yeilded more helpful results. And after compiling all of our data we were able to determine that our unknown bactera was Staph epi, because it was the only one that had the same results on all three of our tests as our unknown bacteruim. After getting home from school i did a little bit of reserch for our project, not as much as i had hoped to acomplish but i was still about even with my timeline goals.

 

Day 12:

 

    Today in class we got to finish up our lab results from the night before which i had completed most of in study hall the last two days. Also in class we went over the theoretical anwsers for our test that we conducted ofver the course of the last two days. The only test that we nailed was the LAC test in which all of our results were correct but we got one anwser wrong on the gram test and two wrong on the motility test. But even with these new results it did not change the identity of our unknown, which we had correctly guessed was staph epi. We then had a little bit of time to work on our website projects.

    After getting out of school today me and nick decided we would get together about noon the next day to finish up our website. we decided i would stay untill around ten at night we figured we would definitly have it finished by then. When i got home today I made the audience evaluation sheet it took roughly half an hour to make and i made it about ten questions long each could be rated from one to four and there was a spot for additional comments after each question. I all so looked up a site with recent information on our website, i correctly sourced it and then linked it to our webpage.

 

Day 13:

 

    Today was  just about our last day to work on our project. I got up around ten in the morning and had time for a shower. I printed out our audience evaluation sheet just to see how it looked on paper, it went one line onto a second page so i decided to lower the margin size (just likeyou said MS. Tucker ) and change the font a little and i got it to fit onto one page. Afterwords my dad took me to nicks house to work on our project. It turned out that nicks parents were having a party at there house and we would have to stay upstairs today becuse everone would be wearing nice clothes.

    We got to work on our project as soon as i got there, adding the finishing touches to each page as we went we spent a perticularly long time on our history page which ended up being pretty long. We then did a little bit of work spell checking our journals because we were told that spelling counted on them. Afterwords we decided to fill in a few website evaluation sheet for some of all of our freeweb ssources. all in all it took about three hours today to finish up our project and we still had a bit if individual work to complete tomorrow onece we got home, so after leaving at ten ish i decided it would be in my best intrest to get ahead in print our all the copies of the evaluation shee and print our the self evaluation sheet so i could fill it our first thing in the morning tomorrow. I got to bed around midnight tonight and felt that i had done a good days work.

 

Day 14:

 

    Today is the final day of our project. yesterday me and nick had alredy completed just about everything that would go on our website, all i really had to do was my personal evaluation which only took around twenty minutes to complete. After doint this i decided to do one last check on our website make a few spelling checks and stuff. I then got out the website evauluation and filled them out it took around half and hour to anwser all the questions , some of them are really obscure. I then wrote up a biblyograph on the last two websites and decided that i was done, i thenn called nick and told him it was okay to E-mail Ms. TUcker saying that we were done with our project.

    Tonight i had the annual chrismas party at the tedesco's house, i remember going to it every year since first grade. I also had to got to my confermation class which isnt that interresting but it is good for me becuase i learn about god because i no longer have a religion class at school since i no longer go to a catholic school. All in all i thought this project wasnt to bad, it was a bit less stressful than a test but it took way more time to complete.
